ORGANISING FREQUENT MEETINGS/MELAS ON HOLIDAYS AND SUNDAYS-DENIAL OF LEGITIMATE RIGHT OF EMPLOYEES OF GUJARAT CIRCLE

We were very happy to see Directorates instructions on the subject vide No. 16/56/2011-SR dated 08.07.2011 in which it was clearly provided that Meetings/Melas etc should not be held on holidays/sundays in a routine manner but in Gujarat Circle, all GDS BPMs, Mail Overseers and SDI/ASPOs were directed Vide C.O.Ahmedabad No. RPLI/Admn/4-15/Mela/2011-12 dated 19.8.11 to attend such melas on every saturdays/sundays during months of August, September and October 2011. Other staff of S.O.s were also forced to remain present in the melas. The orders were not confirmatory to the above said Directorate's instructions which were issued as a result of discussions by Secretary, Department of Posts, on Charter of Demands served with the notice of indefinite strike w.e.f. 5.7.11 by JCA.

However, Postal workers of Gujarat Circle have respected the orders with a view to contribute in the matter of achieving targets as per blue print framed by the administration. It has been represented by several members including few ASPOs by approaching our union with a request for representation in the matter to ensure that in future the orders of the Directorate are followed in right spirit. At this juncture we suggest administration to make a review of targets achieved by forcing staff to attend on sundays/holidays in the months stated above this year by comparing targets achieved last year during same months.

It is also requested to consider that few heads of units have exaggerated under psychological pressure of achieving targets and pressurized employees who gave up their sundays/holidays. Enthusiasm of staff has come down due to undue pressure. Examples have been described in older posts on this blog. It is also requested that directorate's instruction may be followed in coming months.
